Nina Vaid Raoji, DNP, APN-BC, MSN, RN has been brought on to focus on strategizing and mobilizing the National Academies of Medicine’s Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Report recommendations for the state of NJ through the New Jersey Action Coalition (NJAC) and the New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing (NJCCN). Dr. Raoji has been working with NJAC since 2013 .
NJAC has prioritized 4 recommendations from the report. These are:
WORKFORCE: SUPPORTING NURSES TO ADVANCE HEALTH EQUITY
Recommendation 2.1 Rapidly increase number of nurses with expertise in health equity and in specialty areas with current shortages
EDUCATION: STRENGTHENING NURSING EDUCATION
Recommendation 2.6 Support the academic progression of socioeconomically disadvantaged students / Recommendation 7.1 Actions for deans, administrative faculty leaders, faculty, course directors, and staff of nursing education programs
EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING: PROMOTING NURSES’ HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Recommendations 3.7 Prioritize and invest in health interventions for nurses / 3.9 Reduce stigma associated with mental and behavioral health treatment for nurses. / 3.10 Collect systematic data to better understand the health and well-being of the nursing workforce.
POLICY FOR APN FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY: CAPITALIZING ON NURSES’ POTENTIAL
Recommendation 4.1 Changes to institutional policies and laws adopted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic should be made permanent.
