A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls
Guest Healthcare Professional Responsibilities


To be a link between the medical community and lay leaders teaching A Matter of Balance Program;
To respond to questions from class participants;
To provide demonstrations of how to get up from the floor using Handout 7.3.
Criteria for Professional:

Education degree as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse, or Exercise Physiologist or Graduate student in these fields.
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to discuss fall prevention with a small group
Coordinate visit to A Matter of Balance class with Master Trainer
Training would be via materials sent and via phone. The first time they volunteer, I would ask them to arrive 15 minutes prior so we could review the materials.
The Guest Healthcare Professional would come to the site for 1 hour (during a 2 hour class) to present in person.
Answer questions from class participants using the FAQ sheet provided
Experience & Education:

Awareness of fall prevention strategies
Knowledge of A Matter of Balance Program
Review of the Guest Healthcare Professional Handbook to aquaint yourself with fundamentals of cirriculum
Review FAQ sheet in book
Classroom Responsibilities:

Provide a visit lasting 45 -60 minutes.
Engage with class participants
Demonstrate provided Handout 7.3
Confidentiality, Communication, & Recordkeeping:

All participant information is confidential
The Master Trainer will provide support and answer and questions from Guest Healthcare Professional prior to class visit
Class site information is provided to Guest Healthcare Professional by Master Trainer or coordinator (The site is normally a senior activity center, but also have been held at libraries, YMCA’s and religious sites such as a church or temple.)
